According to Fox 5, authorities responded to reports of an active shooter at Apalachee High School in Winder, Barrow County on Wednesday (September 4) at 10:30 a.m. The school was cleared roughly an hour later, and students were released to their families. Neighboring Winder-Barrow High School was also put on lockdown as a precautionary measure but no threat was found. The FBI and Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) are working with local authorities on the investigation. According to the GBI, the suspected shooter is alive and currently in custody. GBI also reported 4 deaths and nine others who were wounded during the shooting. White House officials said President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris were briefed on the shooting. The Harris campaign said the Democratic nominee will address the fatal incident upon arrival at her stop in New Hampshire.
