As autumn settles into the Sacramento area, following a summer that felt unusually cool, I find myself pondering the joys of life in our cherished community. There's a well-known segment on a national morning sports program every Wednesday titled “What Are You Mad About?” Today, I’d like to take a different approach and express a few reflections of gratitude. Let’s title this piece: “What Are You Thankful For?” I am thankful to have recently commemorated another birthday, in good health, surrounded by my beloved wife, children, grandchildren, a great-grandchild, and extended relatives. I reflect on meeting Dr. William H. Lee over 50 years ago, which established an enduring connection with The Sacramento OBSERVER, a relationship that thrives today. I take pride in The OBSERVER's evolution into the nation’s premier African American newspaper. It is a privilege to contribute to this legacy. I cherish living in Northern California, renowned for its stunning weather and proximity to enchanting destinations like Napa, San Francisco, and Lake Tahoe. Moreover, I appreciate that Sacramento boasts a professional sports team we fought valiantly to keep.
