Schnitt, who previously oversaw the Federal Witness Security Program, filed the suit on November 24, alleging violations of his constitutional rights following a secretly recorded conversation that took place during a date. During the meeting on August 4, 2024, Schnitt expressed concerns that the Trump administration would manipulate the release of Jeffrey Epstein's files to protect Republicans while incriminating Democrats. This conversation was covertly recorded by a woman, later identified as a right-wing operative, who presented herself as "Skylar."The lawsuit contends that Schnitt's termination violates his rights to free speech and due process. His attorney, Mark Zaid, argues that his remarks, made in what he believed to be a private setting, constitute constitutionally protected speech. Schnitt seeks monetary damages and reinstatement, while the DOJ has refrained from commenting on the lawsuit.
