Black History Month: Local videographer spotlights black businesses

CHARLOTTE, NC — On the court at 360 Charlotte you’ll find players practicing their skills, but behind the scenes you’ll find content creator Lawrence Hickson.
A love for videography and sports launched Hickson into creating his own business, that business now helps other small black businesses in the Charlotte area.
“We’ve been underserved for a long time and, you know, I think with our community, we need a sense of unity,” content creator Lawrence Hickson said.
He works with clients like 360 Charlotte, one of the country’s top sports training facilities and the Team Miller Foundation, a nonprofit founded by Charlotte Hornets player Brandon Miller that gives back to underserved youth.
“So it was kind of like a great feeling to give back to my community and also specifically the black community as well,” Hickson said.
Through visual storytelling he’s highlighting local black businesses, who he says are underrepresented in the community.
“I think my main passion is serving people, being a service to people,” Hickson said.
That passion has created opportunities for other black business owners to have their own spotlight.
