Ohio Governor Mike DeWine (R) and Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear (D) have recently revealed the design for the companion bridge that is part of the Brent Spence Bridge Corridor Project, linking Cincinnati with Northern Kentucky. This project encompasses eight miles of I-71/I-75 in Kentucky and I-75 in Ohio. In addition to the new bridge, it includes enhancements to the current Brent Spence Bridge for local traffic, revamped ramp layouts, new pedestrian and bike paths to connect communities to transit hubs and employment areas, and aesthetic upgrades to foster walkable environments.
The proposed companion bridge will be a cable-stayed independent deck bridge, utilizing a cabling system instead of a traditional steel truss. With no steel ties between the two decks, northbound travelers from Kentucky to Ohio will utilize the upper deck.
"This bridge symbolizes a significant investment in our region's future," stated Ohio DOT Director Pamela Boratyn, emphasizing the project’s potential to bolster economic growth and enhance safety for years to come.
