Why Congressional Ethics Are Plummeting: A Deep Dive into Today's Political Climate

A considerable portion of our congressional representatives appears to lack firsthand experience with poverty or the need for life-saving healthcare that isn’t accessible without insurance. As a Christian, I've noticed that many who profess their devotion to Jesus, especially on contentious issues like abortion and marriage equality, conveniently overlook core Christian tenets—most notably, the mandates to "love thy neighbor" and "care for the ill." Proposed cuts to healthcare programs aiding the impoverished, chronically ill, and disabled starkly contradict both these teachings and the public’s expectations. Many self-identified Christians in Congress seem to align more with partisan agendas than their faith’s values. Stripping essential coverage from the unemployed, despite their reliance on health for job acquisition, will create greater societal costs. Additionally, structural barriers in Medicaid disproportionately impact men and marginalized groups, highlighting an urgent need for reform. As a society, we must hold our leaders accountable to prioritize compassionate healthcare access for all.
