As I examine the rulings from our Appeals Courts and the U.S. Supreme Court, I often find myself questioning where we can pursue justice, especially when it appears a lower court has rendered an unjust opinion. A recent decision by the Georgia Supreme Court to deny D.A. Fani Willis’ appeal in the Trump case stands out as particularly perplexing. Trump's actions in this matter seem clearly criminal, yet the court denied Willis the chance to proceed with the prosecution regarding Trump’s evident electoral violations. It raises serious concerns about the seeming leniency afforded to Trump, and what message does this send to law students regarding the ongoing inequities faced by people of color in our judicial system? Historically, those of us who believed in judicial errors had the option to appeal to the Supreme Court. Today's reality is starkly different. The Supreme Court's majority often seems to aid Trump in circumventing the rule of law, impeding accountability for the actions that threaten our democracy. The Georgia Supreme Court's dismissal of Willis' appeal further complicates her prosecutorial efforts, pushing her cases into the hands of new attorneys. It's disheartening when D.A.
