Fed Gov. Cook's Lawyer Takes Legal Action Against Trump's Move to Dismiss Her

Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook's attorney, Abbe Lowell, announced on Tuesday that he will initiate legal action to contest President Donald Trump’s attempt to terminate her position. “President Trump lacks the authority to remove Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook. His effort to dismiss her, grounded solely on a referral letter, is devoid of both factual and legal substantiation. We will pursue a lawsuit to challenge this unlawful action,” he stated in a communication to CNN. This declaration followed Trump’s social media post addressed to Cook, asserting he had adequate “cause” for her dismissal. He later remarked that he would respect a judicial ruling on the matter. Trump has criticized Cook for alleged mortgage fraud, yet she has not faced any charges. Cook, affirming her commitment to her role, stated, “I will not resign. My focus remains on supporting the American economy.” Historically, no Federal Reserve board member has ever been dismissed by a president, making the legality of Trump's actions uncertain.
