The Ministry of Health, Wellness, and Elderly Affairs is providing complimentary 3D mammograms and subsequent care under the Universal Health Coverage (UHC) initiative, a strategy aimed at lowering breast cancer mortality rates among women in Saint Lucia. Health authorities are encouraging women to seize this opportunity during October, which is recognized worldwide as Breast Cancer Awareness Month. This screening program, launched in July, encompasses 3D mammograms, follow-up ultrasounds, biopsies, and laboratory tests. Services are accessible at Millennium Heights Medical Complex and St. Jude Hospital. To utilize these services, women must contact their local wellness center to verify the schedule of cancer screening clinics and present a valid identification upon arrival. “Breast cancer is the foremost cause of cancer among women and significantly contributes to early mortality,” stated Dr. Alisha Eugene-Ford, director of UHC. This initiative is part of the government's commitment to enhance health service accessibility across the community. Other services under UHC include maternity care and men’s health clinics.
