Teachers And Educators Team Up To Battle Fascist Restrictions In Missouri-Kansas Schools

ROELAND PARK, KANSAS — Amidst the echoes of Brown v. Board and the resurgence of radical book bans, educators and community advocates are once more championing the cause of liberation. On June 7, local teachers will gather for the 5th Annual Teach Truth Day of Action at Roots Church, equipping participants with bold insights into the colonial injustices of Kansas and Missouri and the resistance that challenged them. Kansas City has long been pivotal in the battle for honest education, being the first U.S. locale to ban notable Black literature amidst a national book censorship campaign. The event addresses the alarming trend across 47 states demanding educators misrepresent historical oppression, as explained by Michael Rebne, a Kansas City physics teacher. This year highlights key sites of resistance, providing vital resources to empower educators in their commitment to truth.
