Inspiring Success Story: How Tashia Lemon-Guillory Transformed Her Life Through Head Start

Tashia Lemon-Guillory recently shared her inspiring narrative with the National Head Start Association regarding her experiences with the Head Start program. She reflected, "After obtaining my early education degree, I found myself uncertain about my career path. Pursuing a master’s degree in social work seemed feasible, yet I felt adrift. A visit to my former Head Start program offered the insight I needed. While out with a friend, I returned to my Head Start center in St. Landry Parish, Louisiana, and was delighted to reconnect with my former teacher. It was remarkable to see how she continued to uplift children and families over the years. In that moment, I realized my ambition to foster a similar influence, with Head Start as the ideal platform. For the past 18 years, I have directed the Lawtell Head Start Center in Louisiana, cherishing my opportunity to give back to my community. Observing the academic and social gaps between Head Start participants and those who are not enrolled has reinforced my commitment, especially as my son, Collin, transitions to studying biology at Livingstone College, underscoring the life-changing impact of Head Start."
