End ICE: Demand Accountability for Its Aggressive Tactics and Agents

By Jon Hochschartner It seems that not a day passes without witnessing disturbing footage of egregious actions carried out by masked individuals, who are often believed to be agents of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). These individuals frequently conceal their identities while forcefully abducting people into unmarked vehicles, leading victims to suspect they may be extremist vigilantes. It would be regrettable yet reasonable if these masked agents were confronted with self-defense. Claims from President Donald Trump’s administration aside, revealing the identities of these agents, who should be public servants, is entirely justifiable. It’s clear to the public, especially Democratic lawmakers, that ICE operates recklessly, propagating sadistic content that exhibits its agents' actions in detaining individuals without due process. ICE, established only within the last 25 years, does not deserve to continue its existence, exemplifying a significant threat to democracy. When Democrats regain national influence, they must seek to dismantle this agency. Meanwhile, state leaders should take firmer action to safeguard citizens against ICE’s aggressive tactics.
