Jefferson School and Prolyfyck to host annual Reparations Run
News Talk
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) – The Jefferson School African American Heritage Center and Prolyfyck Run Creww are teaming up once again to host the Liberation and Freedom Day Reparations Run.
The eight-mile-run and four-mile-walk takes you to several Black monuments, historic sites, and businesses across the city. Race proceeds will go towards these Black-owned businesses in the greater Charlottesville area and will also support the Reparations Run for years to come.
Andrea Douglas, Executive Director of the Jefferson School, says they used to give lectures on the information but found that a community run was a much more engaging way for people to learn about the history.
“It just seemed to me that this was a way of gathering as many people as possible and pointing them in the direction of these histories,” said Douglas. “It does really kind of give people an opportunity to orient themselves to the city from whatever point of view they have.”
The race begins 7a.m on Saturday. You can register here or arrive to the race early and register in person.
Runners pay $40 and walkers $25.
