The Jefferson County Democratic Party has appointed Josh Coleman as its new Chair, choosing a seasoned organizer and activist to lead Alabama's most Democratic region toward a future defined by unity, grassroots involvement, and significant initiatives. Coleman's career is marked by his commitment to public service, party leadership, and activism. His strategic role in electing Randall Woodfin as Birmingham’s Mayor was pivotal, and he became Alabama's first LGBTQ+ Liaison, breaking new ground.
He later took on the position of Deputy Director of Social Justice and Racial Equity, along with leading the Academy of Civic Engagement (ACE), where he successfully guided more than 1,400 individuals into civic leadership roles. An influential figure in state and national Democratic spheres, Coleman previously directed Central Alabama Pride and the Alabama Young Democrats, where he executed the 67 County Strategy.
In his inaugural remarks, Coleman underscored the necessity for unity, underlining continuous organization, grassroots investment, and effective fundraising to enhance Democratic achievements in upcoming elections. He aims to develop training programs that bolster support for party initiatives. Coleman earned degrees from Miles College and the University of Alabama at Birmingham and has engaged in esteemed leadership programs.
