The family of Roger Fortson, a senior airman fatally shot by a Florida sheriff’s deputy, has initiated a federal civil rights lawsuit. Filed in a Pensacola court on March 6, the complaint alleges excessive force used by deputy Eddie Duran during a disturbance call. Footage shows Fortson, armed but non-threatening, was shot shortly after opening his door. Duran was dismissed after investigations deemed his actions unreasonable and faces manslaughter charges. Fortson’s family, represented by attorney Ben Crump, accuses the sheriff’s office of inadequate training and misleading information.
