Aasia Laurencin showcased an exceptional performance at the Johnny Loaring Classic held in Windsor, Canada, on Sunday. She not only set a new Saint Lucia record in the women’s 100m hurdles but also met the World Championship qualifying standard while clinching victory. The event, organized by the University of Windsor Athletics Club, witnessed the 22-year-old athlete rebound impressively after finishing third in the preliminaries with a time of 12.87 seconds. In the final race, Laurencin flourished, clocking a remarkable 12.69 seconds despite a favorable +2.0 m/s wind, the 17th fastest globally this year. She surpassed her own recent record of 12.88 seconds and shattered the meet record set in 2022. Already a semifinalist in the World Indoor Championships earlier this year, she is now among the select few Saint Lucian athletes, alongside Olympic champion Julien Alfred, to qualify for the upcoming global championships in Tokyo. Laurencin will also participate in the Bob Vigars Classic in Ontario this week.
