According to a letter from Brian Kelly's legal team to LSU, the institution’s claim that it had not “formally terminated” him as head football coach has severely impacted his ability to secure another coaching role. The correspondence, dated November 18, was sent to board member John H. Carmouche and LSU athletic director Verge Ausberry. Kelly “reserves all rights to seek any and all damages to the fullest extent permitted by law” regarding the interference with potential job opportunities. The letter, which ESPN obtained, emphasizes, “There is absolutely no basis to LSU’s fabricated claim that Coach Kelly was not terminated or that there was cause for such a termination.” Furthermore, it highlights that LSU's actions and its failure to officially recognize the termination without cause have hindered Kelly's prospects for employment in football, particularly during this vital hiring phase. Amid the ongoing legal dispute, LSU has chosen not to comment. Last Friday, the board authorized new LSU President Wade Rousse to officially dismiss Kelly, though specifics regarding the cause remain unspecified.
