Scott passed away in the Northridge area of Los Angeles, surrounded by loved ones. Desirae L. Benson, part of The Whispers' promotional team, expressed heartfelt sorrow in a statement to Soul Tracks, highlighting Scott’s immense contributions to the music industry and stating, "We lost a legend." The Whispers are celebrated for their extensive body of work, including hits like “And the Beat Goes On,” “Rock Steady,” and “Love Is Where You Find It.” Their influence is accentuated by their successful albums and notable performances, including opening Game 2 of the 1989 World Series. In 2014, they were inducted into the National Rhythm and Blues Hall of Fame, solidifying their legacy in music history. Walter's voice will be deeply missed.
