A cocaine transaction that turned sour has been blamed for a May 15 shootout in Martinique that left two men dead and another nursing injury in the hospital. When the story broke, the online publication RCI.FM identified the two deceased as a Saint Lucian national and a Martiniquan. The publication reported that the third man who was hospitalised with gunshot injury is also a Saint Lucian. Police have since arrested him and two other suspects. Investigators said they recovered two 9mm weapons, an AR15 semi-automatic rifle, cocaine, and cash at the scene of the gun violence in the capital, Fort de France. A press release from public prosecutor Clarisse Taron disclosed that preliminary investigations indicated that the deadly gun violence erupted during a cocaine transaction involving two buyers and two sellers of the drug, all of whom had weapons. The release said the buyers robbed the sellers, resulting in a heavy gunfire exchange that killed one man on each side and caused injury to one of the buyers.
