The NAACP California-Hawaii State Conference celebrated Secretary of State Dr. Shirley N. Weber and former State Senator Steven Bradford at its 13th annual Legacy Hall of Fame Gala on June 28. Weber, California's first Black Secretary of State, was appointed by Governor Gavin Newsom in 2021 and has a remarkable legislative legacy, including the establishment of California’s Reparations Task Force. Bradford, recognized for his public service, was the first Black member of the Gardena City Council, contributing significantly to public policy. Both reflected on their experiences, emphasizing integrity in public service and the necessity of vigilance against civil rights regression. The night concluded with heartfelt recognition from NAACP President Rick Callender.
