In a historic address during a special joint session of Saint Lucia’s Parliament on Monday, Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu unveiled scholarships for students from Saint Lucia and advocated for enhanced collaboration across the Eastern Caribbean involving trade, education, and cultural exchanges. Being the first African leader to address this Parliament, Tinubu underscored the significance of shared heritage and future partnerships during his official visit.The momentous event, hosted at Sandals Grande Resort, included members from both houses of Parliament, government officials, opposition leaders, and other esteemed guests. Tinubu noted Nigeria's formal diplomatic ties with Saint Lucia and aligned scholarships with the island's goal of ensuring every household has a university graduate. Prime Minister Philip J. Pierre termed this initiative “great news.”Nigerian proposals also included visa waivers for diplomatic travelers and educational exchanges, emphasizing the deep historical ties between Africa and the Caribbean. He called for unity and collective progress, reflecting on their shared cultural identity.
