In a historic milestone, an American has been elected as Pope for the first time. Cardinal Robert Prevost of Chicago has become Pope Leo XIV, succeeding Pope Francis. The announcement was made by Cardinal Dominique Mamberti from the St. Peter’s Basilica balcony, declaring, “Habemus Papam!” At 69, Prevost, recognized as a progressive, is dedicated to continuing Francis's mission of social justice. Born in 1955, he joined the Order of Saint Augustine in 1977 and has served in various significant ecclesiastical positions, including bishop of Chiclayo and prefect of the Dicastery for Bishops.
