His advocacy arises from the team's persistent batting difficulties, particularly in the Test format, and he believes Floyd Reifer’s tenure as batting coach should come to an end.Desmond Haynes, celebrated as a consistent and esteemed opening batsman in the 1980s and early 1990s with a batting average of 42.29, previously served as the Lead Selector for the West Indies Men’s teams from January 2022 to June 2024. Recently, he earned a position on the ICC Men’s Cricket Committee, marking his influential role within cricket governance.Though his formal coaching experience is modest, Haynes previously led the Barbados Tridents in the Caribbean Premier League, steering them to victory in 2014.
