The Royal Saint Lucia Police Force (RSLPF) has stopped issuing passports on Sundays, an initiative it had introduced to address a backlog.
“The Immigration Department of the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force would like to inform the public that passports will no longer be issued on Sundays,” a police notice said.
However, the notice disclosed that issuing passports would continue on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
The notice provided no other details.
Then Acting Police Commissioner Ronald Phillip introduced issuing passports on Sundays, as the RSLPF acknowledged inconveniences to the public in obtaining the travel documents.
Between July 20 and August 14, 2023, the Immigration Department issued 532 passports as it reported that many people were utilising the service.
At the time, the police noted that usually, during the summer period, more people apply for travel documents.
