The Daren Sammy Foundation (DSF) has extended its support to over two dozen families for the upcoming academic year, celebrating its 10th annual scholarship event this week. Marking a decade of philanthropy, DSF acknowledges its ongoing partnership with Republic Bank, facilitated through the Power To Make A Difference (PMAD) Programme, now in its third year.
Cathy Daniel-Sammy, DSF's vice president, expressed enthusiasm in providing assistance to those in need. "Ten years ago, we awarded 10 scholarships; today, we are privileged to grant 30, thanks to Republic Bank's support," she stated.
Founded by two-time World Cup champion Daren Sammy, this scholarship initiative honors exceptional students who exhibit commitment, hard work, and a love for sports. Scholarships of $2,500 for secondary and tertiary students, and $1,500 for primary pupils, cover vital educational expenses.
By this year, the foundation has awarded scholarships valued at over EC$300,000 to more than 150 recipients, with a golf tournament set for August 29 as its principal fundraiser.
