Mountain City, Tenn. – Thursday night marked a momentous occasion as seventeen inmates from the Northeast Correctional Complex (NECX) commemorated their achievement of earning associate degrees in general studies. This event represents the second and most distinguished cohort to graduate from Northeast State Community College. Dignitaries present included facility administrators, educational personnel, and Northeast State representatives, all united in recognizing the graduates' significant milestones. NECX Warden Brian Eller remarked, “Providing these educational opportunities equips offenders with essential tools for successful reintegration.” He highlighted that prioritizing rehabilitation fosters enhanced community safety. Impressively, eleven graduates were inducted into the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society, each achieving a GPA of 3.5 or above, with nine excelling at 3.9 or higher. Northeast State Community College President Jeff McCord conveyed pride in the graduates and lauded the collaboration with TDOC, supporting educational programs across nine institutions statewide.
