As Atlanta gears up for a bustling Fourth of July travel weekend, expectations are high for both air and vehicular journeys, significantly surpassing last year’s figures. AAA forecasts a historic surge with nearly 2.3 million Georgians set to travel by air, car, or other modes. Roadways are anticipated to experience substantial traffic, particularly I-75, where moderate congestion is expected in both directions leading into Stockbridge. Nationally, around 72.2 million Americans are projected to travel domestically from June 28 through July 6, marking a rise of 1.7 million (2.4%) from last year and 7 million compared to 2019. The Transportation Security Administration estimates that 18.5 million will fly during this period. Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport predicts over 4 million passengers, with Friday likely being the busiest day, seeing approximately 400,000 travelers. AAA’s Vice President, Debbie Haas, notes the high demand for travel this year, particularly due to the holiday’s favorable scheduling. Travelers are advised to plan ahead for smooth journeys.
