Amanda Alexander first encountered the concept of "menstrual poverty" while on a film set in 2015. The term resonated deeply with her, prompting a transition from a successful legal career in the UK to what she considers a spiritual calling: empowering women and girls through access to sustainable menstrual products. Her initiative, Female Dignity Inc., offers a range of eco-friendly LOVE products, including pads and tampons crafted from bamboo, cotton, and soon, banana fibre. The latter will be produced in Saint Lucia, embracing local agricultural resources and honoring her roots. In a recent conversation with St Lucia Times, she shared her motivations for this outreach work, particularly with vulnerable women in the Bordelais Correctional Facility and Upton Gardens Girls Centre. Alexander’s commitment extends to developing environmentally friendly products, emphasizing health and sustainability. As she expands her offerings, including future nappies and incontinence pads, Amanda envisions rallying local support through her coalition, "The Women of Saint Lucia," to combat menstrual poverty globally.
