Each November, residents of Michigan unite with loved ones, savoring delicious meals, cheering for the Lions, and contemplating the past year's events. This Thanksgiving, however, many families face increasing challenges to make ends meet amid a landscape of economic instability and escalating expenses. To combat this, I am collaborating with colleagues from both parties in Lansing to alleviate your financial burdens and enhance your quality of life in Michigan. In recent months, the federal government has imposed tariffs on a wide array of goods from various countries. While tariffs can be beneficial if applied judiciously, the current haphazard approach has driven prices up significantly. Reports indicate rising costs for meat, produce, and healthcare premiums, which have doubled or tripled from last year. The Michigan Retailers Association revealed that many small businesses have been compelled to raise prices. Although I cannot influence national tariffs, I am committed to advocating for affordable living conditions in Michigan through a strategic trade policy that prioritizes job creation without excessive costs. I am also proud to have signed another balanced, bipartisan budget, fostering initiatives that further support families and businesses in our state.
