Flora Ettlinger Whiting, daughter of Louis E. Ettlinger, significantly influenced publishing and rug manufacturing. After her 1899 marriage to architect Giles Whiting, she became an early IBM investor, amassing wealth before her death in 1971. The Whiting Foundation now supports emerging writers, awarding $50,000 to three Black scholars this year: Samuel Kọ́láwọlé, Karisma Price, and Aisha Sabatini Sloan, who are renowned for their innovative contributions to literature and academia, offering diverse narratives and unique perspectives in their respective fields.
