Transitioning from Sacramento to Alabama, 18-year-old Jayde Warfield-Robin experiences a significant transformation in her college journey at Tuskegee University. Each day begins with her attending classes like English 0101 and Psychology 0270, amidst a vibrant atmosphere filled with diverse peers who share in Black pride.As a freshman cheerleader, she carries her gold and maroon pom-poms, embracing her new role. Warfield-Robin, among countless Black West Coast students, has been positively impacted by the United College Action Network (UCAN), which connects aspiring scholars with Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs).Founded in 1999, UCAN has evolved college fairs that now draw over 20,000 participants, offering insights into HBCUs like Howard and Hampton. According to founder Alan Rowe, HBCUs celebrate not only academic growth but also moral and spiritual development, providing indispensable opportunities for students. With events lined up in Northern California, UCAN continues fostering access to higher education.
