U.S. News and World Report Offers Its Picks for the Nation’s Best HBCUs

The magazine U.S. News and World Report recently issued its annual rankings of the best colleges and universities in the United States. In addition to its rankings of the best national universities and liberal arts colleges, the magazine ranks regional colleges and universities and also the nation’s historically Black colleges and universities. Spelman College in Atlanta was ranked as the best HBCU and Howard University in Washington, D.C., was second. This was the same as a year ago. This was the 14th year in a row that Spelman College has topped the U.S. News rankings for HBCUs. Xavier University of Louisiana in New Orleans remained in third place up from fifth place two years ago. Tuskegee University in Alabama jumped from eighth place to fourth place this year. Hampton University in Virginia ranked fifth. Rounding out the top 10 positions are: 6. Morehouse College in Atlanta 7. Florida A&M University 7. (tie) North Carolina A&T State University 9. Claflin University in Orangeburg, South Carolina 10. Fisk Univerity in Nashville Top-ranked HBCU Spelman College was ranked as the 54th best liberal arts college in the country, compared to 57th a year ago.
