A Wrong Door Entry Turns Violent as Ohio Cops and Bar Staff Allegedly Beat a Black College Student

In the early hours of November 18, 2023, Devin Johnson entered an Ohio bar through an exit gate, only to face aggressive ejection by several staff members who forcefully shoved him down the sidewalk. A police officer subsequently struck him multiple times on the back of his head. At the time, Johnson, a 20-year-old student and football player at Miami University, was celebrating with teammates after their victory against the University of Buffalo.Johnson, now a plaintiff, asserts a lawsuit against the bar employees and law enforcement, claiming a violation of his Fourth Amendment rights. He alleged that after stepping outside for air, he attempted to re-enter, only to be confronted by staff who reportedly interpreted his actions as threatening.Although he was convicted of assault and resisting arrest, jury findings were mixed regarding other charges. The incident video raises concerns about the police’s excessive force, as Johnson was subdued and posed no threat. The ensuing legal action continues to affect Johnson deeply.
