NEW YORK — Venus and Serena Williams have joined forces to launch a groundbreaking initiative aimed at creating pathways for youth from underserved communities through the dual avenues of tennis and education. The Williams Family Excellence Program was unveiled Thursday at the U.S. Open alongside the USTA Foundation, with Venus actively participating in the on-court announcement. This initiative is set to prioritize post-secondary education and career development, aspiring to impact over 2,500 individuals aged 13 to 25 annually by 2035. Community organizations affiliated with the USTA Foundation will identify and engage young talents facing financial hardships, offering them complimentary or affordable high-performance training, college recruitment assistance, as well as access to camps and competitions.“Venus and Serena have inspired countless individuals, redefining culture and excellence,” stated Brian Vahaly, President and interim Co-CEO of USTA. “Their legacy continues through this program, empowering a new generation.” Award-winning screenwriter Shonda Rhimes echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the initiative's role in honoring the Williams family's dreams. The program will encapsulate three main pillars: promoting future champions, enhancing college opportunities, and facilitating career advancements.
