In a thrilling yet low-scoring encounter on Thursday, the Windward Islands secured a narrow victory over the Leeward Islands by a mere five runs, kickstarting the West Indies Rising Stars Men’s Under-19 Championship. This match, held at the Conaree Sports Club in St Kitts & Nevis, marked the first appearance for both teams in the tournament.The Windwards' lineup featured three talented players from Saint Lucia: Theo Edward, Isaiah Jones, and Darvin Forde, all of whom made significant contributions to their triumph. Winning the toss, the Windwards' openers Edward and Stephan Pascal put together a partnership of 41 runs, with Pascal contributing 21 runs off 26 balls. Following a strong start, the Windwards were eventually bowled out for 124 runs in 29.5 overs, collapsing from a stable 92-2, as Micah McKenzie showcased his skills with an impressive 5-36.On the Leewards' side, a shaky batting performance ensued, with Tanez Francis out first, followed by a superb bowling display from Forde, who took several key wickets. The Windwards will now prepare to strengthen their batting against Jamaica on Sunday, July 6.
