On June 27, a disturbing video surfaced, capturing an Uber driver nonchalantly twirling a knife in his lap while transporting a Black woman to her residence. The passenger, known on social media as @Xkhatukhu, posted the footage, which swiftly went viral, eliciting a torrent of comments expressing concern for her well-being. “The driver’s name is Ethan,” she revealed, tagging her location with #CTL, an abbreviation for Charleston, North Carolina.In her remarks, she stated, “I was fortunate to make it out alive.” After the video gained traction, Atlanta Black Star featured it on their Instagram, prompting Uber to take action. The company confirmed in a comment that the driver had been banned following a thorough investigation.Uber stated, “Rider safety is paramount, and we take these incidents very seriously.” Highlighting their strict policy against weapons, it further emphasized that drivers are forbidden from carrying any arms while using the app.
