Cato Laurencin Receives the John P. McGovern Compleat Physician Award

Cato T. Laurencin, University Professor and Albert and Wilda Van Dusen Distinguished Endowed Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery, and chief executive officer of The Cato T. Laurencin Institute for Regenerative Engineering at the University of Connecticut, has been selected to receive the John P. McGovern Compleat Physician Award from the Houston Academy of Medicine. The award is given to individuals who exemplify the life and practices of Sir William Osler, who was considered the “Father of Modern American Medicine.” The award seeks to identify and recognize multi-accomplished physicians who have enriched the field of medicine with excellence and humaneness. Dr. Laurencin is the former dean of the School of Medicine at the University of Connecticut. In 2016, he was awarded the National Medal of Technology and Innovation. Dr. Laurencin is the founding editor-in-chief of the Journal of Racial and Ethnic Health Disparities. He is the author of Success Is What You Leave Behind: Fostering Leadership and Innovation (Academic Press, 2021).
