Josie Brown Named Dean of University of Hartford College of Arts and Sciences

The University of Hartford in Connecticut has appointed Josie Brown to serve as dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, as well as Hillyer College, which offers associate’s degrees and pathways to four-year degree programs. For the past 20 years, Dr. Brown has held several faculty and administrative positions with Point Park University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She joined the faculty at Point Park University in 2003 as an assistant professor of English and director of the minor in African American studies. She rose to the rank of full professor, teaching courses on African American, Caribbean, and ethnic American literature. Throughout her tenure with Point Park University, Dr. Brown has served in numerous leadership roles including interim chair of the department of criminal justice and sociology, director of the study abroad program, and assistant dean of the College of Arts and Sciences. She currently serves as dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, a position she has held since 2022 after two years as interim dean.
