After a chaotic turn of events, in which the law was rendered enforceable for a few hours, the controversial law SB4 is currently on hold in the State of Texas. As police officers could be given the power to act with the power of immigration enforcement, this comes with theability to detain suspects under suspicion of holding undocumented citizenship in the country. The law leaves Mexican/Latine Texans especially vulnerable to harassment and false detainment among other crimes on the part of law enforcement, documented or not.Last week, the Supreme Court ruled that while it is still subject to review that Senate Bill 4 would still be enforceable in the State of Texas. After a lower court then put the law back on hold following a last-minute hearing from the Texas solicitor general – with statements against SB4 provided by the US Dept. of Justice and the ACLU – the law was brought to appeals court and currently is in deliberation.
