Volunteers needed to clean graffiti in Glastonbury town centre

Glastonbury’s Mural Trail has issued a call for volunteers to assist with removing graffiti from the town’s brick walls. The clean-up session is scheduled for Monday, April 29, from noon to 3 pm. This initiative aims to address recent incidents of tagging that have marred the town’s celebrated street art. Kim Von Coels, the mural trail coordinator, will lead the clean-up efforts using a non-toxic solution. The community’s involvement is crucial, and residents who can spare an hour or two are encouraged to join in preserving the artistic integrity of the town centre. The initiative reflects Glastonbury’s ongoing commitment to appropriate and considerate street art, contrasting with the recent spree of disrespectful tagging. The town, which embraces mural arts as part of its cultural identity, has expressed disappointment in these acts that undermine community efforts. In response to the graffiti issue, town officials are also contacting local graffiti artists, urging them to utilise designated areas for their art. These include a free wall at the local skate park and large sections at Jacobs Ladder, between Bove Town and Windmill Hill, where artistic expression is encouraged.
