A total of seventeen students have been awarded this year’s Eileen Paul Scholarships, a program supported by the Saint Lucia Hotel and Tourism Authority (SLHTA) through its Tourism Enhancement Fund to assist students transitioning from primary education. Established in 2021, this initiative aims to aid the children of essential tourism workers—including front desk staff and waiters—who form the core of the island's hospitality sector. “This is for those diligent service workers,” stated Donette Ismael, program manager for the Tourism Enhancement Fund, in correspondence with St. Lucia Times. This year's recipients include students from various secondary schools, selected from over 40 applicants based on their academic achievements and family financial situations, with a retention requirement of at least a 70% average. During the award ceremony at Sandals Halcyon Beach, Ismael highlighted that the scholarship’s true intent is to create opportunities, ensuring that no child's prospects are limited by circumstance.
