Black Women’s Think Tank Leader Kellie Todd Griffin Discusses The Year’s Biggest Themes

With over 25 years of expertise in public affairs, community outreach, strategy, marketing, and communications, Kellie Todd Griffin stands out as a prominent figure in California, energizing both people and policies around critical societal issues. As the President and CEO of the California Black Women’s Collective Empowerment Institute, Griffin aims to reshape the narrative and outcomes for Black women and girls statewide. She pioneered the nation's inaugural Black Women’s Think Tank, securing $5 million in state funding for impactful policy reforms.A graduate in journalism and public relations from the University of Texas at Arlington, Griffin previously served as Communications Director for Karen Bass, former congressmember and current LA Mayor. In a conversation with California Black Media, she reflected on her achievements, including honoring 35 Black women and training over 500 young leaders, while addressing challenges, particularly the persistent question of why advocacy for Black communities is essential. Looking forward to 2026, she emphasizes the importance of collective motivation and aims for greater representation and opportunities for Black Californians.
