A Philadelphia charter school has dismissed a staff member after an incident involving a seventh grader, during which the employee allegedly struck the boy hard enough to dislodge a tooth. Montrena Bennett recounted that the altercation occurred last month at KIPP Philadelphia Preparatory Academy between her 12-year-old son, Peyton Outlaw, and the staff member.Bennett explained to WPVI that her son sought to use the restroom on his lunch break, but was denied access. During the encounter, a headlock was applied, prompting Peyton to attempt to escape, resulting in a physical confrontation where he was reportedly thrown across the room, leading to injuries that included a missing tooth, a swollen lip, and bruising.Despite the violence, school officials failed to inform the family directly; Bennett learned about the incident from another parent. Her son, diagnosed with Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD), requires specialized educational support. The school acknowledged the severity of the situation but Bennett insists that mere dismissal of the staff member is insufficient, emphasizing the need for improved safety protocols for students.
