74-Year-Old Man Justifies Shooting Virginia Intruder at His Door: Judge Delivers Harsh Sentencing

A Virginia man aged 74 is expected to spend his remaining years incarcerated following the fatal shooting of a man who inadvertently knocked on his apartment door, mistaking it for a friend's residence. Leroy King has been sentenced to 25 years in prison for the June 2023 death of 38-year-old Albert Johnson, as stated by the Norfolk Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office.Johnson was visiting a neighbor and mistakenly approached King's door. After returning and knocking twice, King confronted him with a handgun. He shot Johnson twice in the neck and torso, resulting in Johnson’s death at the scene, prompting police to arrest King.Convicted on second-degree murder charges, King maintained his innocence throughout the trial. Commonwealth’s Attorney Ramin Fatehi expressed deep sorrow for Johnson's family, asserting King's actions were unjustifiable. The court sentenced King to 25 years, with an additional 20 years suspended on the condition of good behavior. King previously survived a similar incident in 2003, underscoring a pattern of violence.
