Accuracy of Sacramento’s homeless count questioned

(US MEDIA GROUP) – According to the latest point-in-time count released by the city of Sacramento, there has been a significant decrease in the number of homeless individuals living on the streets. The count, conducted in January of this year, showed a 29% drop in the overall homeless population from 9,000 to approximately 6,600. The most notable change was a 41% decrease in unsheltered homeless individuals. This news has been met with praise from city officials, including Mayor Darrell Steinberg who sees the numbers as a sign of progress. Despite the positive outlook, Mayor Steinberg acknowledged the criticism that has been directed at him and his administration for not doing enough to address the issue of homelessness. He stated that while the numbers are encouraging, there is still much work to be done, and he emphasized the need for continued efforts to further reduce the homeless population in Sacramento.
