Alabama A&M University has commenced its prestigious 150th anniversary with an unprecedented influx of freshman enrollment. The historically Black college, situated in Huntsville, Alabama, has welcomed its largest cohort in several years for the class of 2029. During the annual Torch Lighting ceremony, officials revealed that 2,157 first-time freshmen are now pursuing their studies, eclipsing last year's record. Impressively, male students account for 42% of this class, marking a positive shift amid a nationwide decline in male enrollment at HBCUs. Contributing factors like financial, cultural, and social obstacles have impacted this trend, prompting HBCUs to enhance efforts aimed at attracting Black male scholars.Alabama A&M proudly showcases its diverse student body, with students hailing from 40 states and five different countries. A notable 62% of these first-year students are slated to reside on campus. This milestone year aims to foster academic evolution while celebrating cultural traditions through various activities, such as leadership workshops and classic events.
