On Monday, January 20, 2025, the Lambda Pi Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® will honor Martin Luther King Jr. Day with its “We Are One” AKA Day of Service, a powerful initiative to support the Detroit community. Taking place at Third New Hope Baptist Church West Location, the event will bring members together to assemble 1,908 toiletry bags for the Detroit Rescue Mission Ministries (DRMM), symbolizing the sorority’s founding year, 1908, and its enduring commitment to service. This initiative reflects the chapter’s dedication to addressing critical community needs and promoting unity on this national day of service. The Lambda Pi Omega Chapter, founded in 1977 as Detroit’s second graduate chapter, has a rich history of service and leadership in the metro Detroit area. Made up of over 500 members, the chapter has championed various philanthropic and educational initiatives for nearly five decades. Led by Chapter President Crystal Y. Sewell, Lambda Pi Omega continues to empower communities through impactful programs like the “We Are One” service event.
