In just a matter of days, voters in Jackson County will make a crucial decision regarding the approval or disapproval of the Chiefs and Royals stadium sales tax vote.&
The tax is intended to provide funds for building a new stadium downtown for the Kansas City Royals and making upgrades to the Chiefs’ Arrowhead Stadium – however many strongly opposed are concerned about traffic, the impact on local businesses, gentrification, and increased rent.&
According to KCUR, both teams emphasized the significance of passing the 3/8th-cent sales tax in order to advance their individual projects and remain in Jackson County. The tax is anticipated to produce approximately $2 billion over a span of 40 years – divided equally between the Royals and Chiefs.&
Since neither team has finalized their lease agreements with detailed financial terms, nor have they solidified agreements outlining their commitment to salaries and other community contributions in exchange for tax funds, some organizations are still unsure about whether they will support or oppose the tax.
