ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) – Atlanta News First Anchor Shon Gables was one of six speakers at Black Enterprise’s second annual Health Is Wealth Weekend on Friday. The event was dedicated to fostering health equity and economic empowerment within the Black community. Gables moderated the fireside chat Friday morning, which addressed the state’s maternal mortality ratio, which is the highest in the country. Best-selling author and wife of movie director Spike Lee, Tonya Lewis Lee, challenged Georgia to do better in the area of maternal mortality. Right now, between 35 and 40 Georgia mothers lose their lives due to preventable pregnancy-related complications every year. Lewis Lee held a special screening of her new documentary “Aftershock,” and teamed up with Black Enterprise, Wal-Mart and Atlanta News First to amplify the need for exercise, better nutritional choices and mental health. Other speakers included: Alfred Edmond, SVP and executive editor-at-large of Black Enterprise Jodi Brockington, founder and CEO of Niara Consulting Kirk Charles, founder of Fit Beyond 40 and former columnist for Men’s Health Monique Caradine-Kitchens, host of the Sisternomics Podcast and founder of OverFlow Enterprises Copyright 2024 WANF.
