A nationwide recall has been initiated by an infant formula producer following a botulism outbreak linked to contaminated batches, resulting in 15 hospitalizations across 12 states. ByHeart Whole Nutrition powdered formula was identified on the company's website as the affected product, while the Food and Drug Administration investigates up to 84 serious infant botulism cases since August. The formula was discovered to contain Clostridium botulinum, the bacteria responsible for this dangerous condition. In a statement, ByHeart announced the voluntary recall of all their formula products, including cans and single-serving packs, to prioritize infant safety. Although federal health officials confirm no fatalities, botulism remains a critical concern for infant health. Investigations by the FDA and the CDC are ongoing in cooperation with California health authorities, who first flagged the increase in cases back in August. The recalled lots have specific “use by” dates and barcodes listed on ByHeart's website.
